Who are Shelterland’s partners?

Through partnership we aim to help improve the training partner’s products and methods by:

  • Adding more training realism.
  • Shelterland’s partners are a tight selection of specialists who help ensure the content, realism and consistency of our training programs, as well as facilitating and conducting the training and courses.

What is behavior-based training?

Behavior-based training is the philosophy of altering and improving people’s behavior and interactions in specific situations and environments to prevent accidents. Behavior-based training also improves the quality of everyone’s work in general.

What is a 3D virtual training simulator?

A 3D virtual training simulator is a serious gaming PC-platform that allows one or more (limitless) people to do a variety of tasks in a virtual reconstruction of the actual environment (oil-rig, factory, ship, etc.). You can do trial-and-error and instant evaluation after the training sessions – again and again.

What’s wrong with the way we’re doing things now?

  • Whereas behavior-based training using the 3D virtual training simulator has an educational purpose, conventional training (for instance, live emergency tests) is more like a test or an exam. You do not learn much from an exam – you learn from your education.
  • Changing behavior is a more efficient way of creating a safer environment than, for instance, understanding manuals and safety routines. There is nothing wrong with the routines, and when tested, everyone knows and understands them. However accidents mostly occur as a consequence of at-risk behavior.
  • Don’t just take our word for it. According to McKinsey: “Simulations can be better than experience because they compress time and remove extraneous details. Unlike life, simulations are optimized for learning…The true beauty of simulation is that it provides an immersive learning experience, where skills, process, and knowledge can all be enhanced in a way reality cannot."

What kind of equipment do we need to run the 3D virtual training simulator?

Nothing extraordinary – your current PCs should be sufficient.

Who can participate in the training? And do they need to have special skills and/or PC knowledge?

Everyone can and should participate. You don’t have to have special skills or PC knowledge.
