Documentation of industry loss from accidents

At-risk behavior costs lives and limbs. It is well-documented – for instance in quarterly reports (2011 Q3 latest figures) from the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC). In the first three quarters of 2011 Q1 (latest figures), IADC documented that 2,236 people worldwide were injured and/or received medical treatment while at work – of which 16 lost their lives.

In total, the industry lost 364,820,905.41 man-hours worldwide! And, to make things worse – these figures are only for rigs and don’t include the operators.
