Grant Agreement No.: FN/A

Maritime Crisis Management sponsored by The Danish Maritime Fund

in collaboration with Maersk Training Center in Svendborg , Eitzen Gas A/S and Nordic Tankers

The project Maritime Crisis Management (MCM) is to develop a training platform that consists of three elements:

  • Scenarios for training in safety practices and procedures
  • A multi-user interactive simulation system in 3D, simulating critical situations at sea
  • An evaluation system that collects the understanding of the individual sailor's actions and conduct in the event of a crisis at sea

The interactive simulation system allows the user to verify existing security procedures in a realistic simulated situation. After each training session can it be verified that safety procedure was used properly? In collaboration with a director, officer or colleagues, the session evaluates whether the user took the right decisions and acted appropriately.

With Project MCM, the partners wanted to improve security through user-focused behavioral training. Project MCM is creating a more effective, qualitative and cost-effective teaching model for training in general non-technical skills. The simulation will include the development of complex security scenarios for teaching. Training in operations and processes can be delivered with a focus on human communication and collaboration between multiple people and teams. Such learning is relevant to the educational environment, dealing with human behavior that players exhibit in connection with the incidents involving the crew and captain and shore staff.
